Psalms 141
Psalm 141 is a psalm in which David entrusts his prayers and life to God and pleads with Him. The psalm is divided into three main parts. The first (verses 1-2) asks for God’s attentive hearing—an urgent cry and the ascent of prayer. The second (verses 3-7) is a plea for God to keep his words, actions, and heart from being turned toward evil. In the final section (verses 8-10), it consists of seeking God’s protection and help, even in the midst of danger. Overall, the psalmist shows a determination to depend on God and keep a holy life, despite threats and temptations surrounding him and the community.
verseA Psalm by David. LORD, I have called on you. Come to me quickly! Listen to my voice when I call to you.
verseLet my prayer be set before you like incense; the lifting up of my hands like the evening sacrifice.
verseSet a watch, LORD, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips.
verseDon’t incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice deeds of wickedness with men who work iniquity. Don’t let me eat of their delicacies.
verseLet the righteous strike me, it is kindness; let him reprove me, it is like oil on the head; don’t let my head refuse it; Yet my prayer is always against evil deeds.
verseTheir judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock. They will hear my words, for they are well spoken.
verse“As when one plows and breaks up the earth, our bones are scattered at the mouth of Sheol.”
verseFor my eyes are on you, LORD, the Lord. I take refuge in you. Don’t leave my soul destitute.
verseKeep me from the snare which they have laid for me, from the traps of the workers of iniquity.
verseLet the wicked fall together into their own nets while I pass by.
